.....Richard's from Sheffield. Up there people don't tend to exaggerate. So what he actually means when he says, "it was a good one when I bought it", is that unlike most Mkls his Fiesta Supersport wasn't rampant with rust when he found it. Mind you, it wasn't weighed down with much else either.

It was virtually a rolling shell when he paid £100 to Wayne Dickson, Supersport Register top hon-cho. It was one of those projects Wayne had stocked up on for when the rest of his fleet was finished. In fact, he was storing tools in the luckless car when our Rich turned up, cash in hand.

The underbonnet area wasn't at all pretty - there had been quite a conflagration in there at some point. Richard, however, didn't care. He had plans to turn the Fiesta into a growling, full-bore track day car. All he needed was sound met-alwork to base the project on.

The Supersport was soon in pieces and really only took a small amount of patching up to class the shell as whole again. While he was working on it, however, Richard made sure the front nearside chassis member was cut back and plated, his cunning plan required a five-speed gearbox. While he had his welding gear out, the rear wiper mountings were plated over, he wouldn't be needing them again. This explains the heater element free rear screen. It's from the spartan and misnamed Popular model.

Before a flawless coat of Diamond white was applied, the bonnet was louvred to improve airflow as things were set to get hotter than usual in the engine bay. Much to Richard's annoyance, the respray included the front spoiler and whee-larch trims, but not the radiator grille, which actually was body colour on the original car. Still, the black plastic does help break up the pasty.....
