.....We'll go to the ends of the earth to find the best modified classic Fords ever built. That's why in the first week in December we headed north of Aberdeen, Scotland, to find a Mkl Fiesta. Trust me, thermal underwear is an essential not an option. Are we good to you or what?

Step forward owner Ronnie Nicol who tells us how he ended up with this bright yellow Fiesta. "My brother-in-law was running a caged Mkl Escort as a track car," he explains. "Once I had a ride in it at Knockhill I knew that I needed a car to do the same."

Up until then Ronnie had also been an Escort fan, although a lack of spare cash meant that they had all remained as just standard road cars. However, that old money factor was still a problem, despite his new-found reason to live.

"I couldn't afford to buy a complete car so I bought an old Fiesta shed which was an MoT failure," Ronnie explains sadly. "The Fiesta should be lighter and more competitive than an Escort. I fancied a Mkl Fiesta 'cos they're getting a bit rare now and it was only £150!" he continues. "It was red, a bog standard 950 Popular Plus. I got it home and fitted new wings, front panels and a bonnet - basically a totally new front-end. The new panels cost me a couple of hundred."

He stripped the interior to the shell but there was no chance of selling stuff to finance his project and most bits were only suitable for the scrapyard......
