.....So he moved on to plan B and then plan C. "I bought another crossflow but it wasn't quick enough, so I only used it once at Knockhill and then changed it for a Mkll Fiesta CVH," says Ronnie. "That lasted almost two years before I replaced it with the current engine. It was quite quick but I'd always fancied a Zetec, just never had the money to do it before."

It's true, old and new can make a very suitable match - take Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones, for example, and this Fiesta/Zetec combination was just as successful, presumably without the expensive legal fees to cover their exclusive wedding. "I bought the engine from the local paper with a blown head gasket, for only £80," he recalls. "I took it home, stripped and rebuilt it and it all seemed OK."
