Dave Harris - A52 FGV - XR2

Dave's girlfriend, nic, is realistic about her place in his lifestyle. "I come after the XR2 and the three-door Cosworth," she admits. "I'm above the PlayStation though, which is good."

It's been that way since 1997 when Dave bought the car from a mate at work. Apparently it was a bucket, but a £580 one. The build took five years to get the XR2 from bucket to boastin' and cost Dave about four-and-a-half grand in the process.

He'd work on the Fiesta as and when he had time (or during all of his spare time according to Nic). The new panels and sanding down - to prepare the car for spray work - gave both Dave and Nic blisters, so adding the paint was left to Brett at Unicar. Dave did do all the graphics himself though.

The 1.6-litre Crossflow was sorted by Specialised Engines and now sports a 34/34 DMTR carb, K&N, four-branch Ashley manifold and a Granada Cossie alternator. The brakes are uprated drilled and grooved discs with Greenstuff pads, and the Pepperpot alloys which sit over the top have been rubbed down and refurbed. Next up is a set of Gaz coil-overs which Dave plans to slot home as soon as he gets a sec.

On track, the XR was fearless against Brian's twin, passing it on the inside at the long hairpin. "I almost had ye at the other end though," he reckoned.
