Brian Mitchell - A526 GJT - XR2

Brian's a Scot, but when he moved south of the border to shack up with us Sassenaches, he went pretty much as far as he could and holed up in Southampton. He's a small chap, but big on voice, so the XR2 suits him. So, is that why he bought it in the first place?

"I'd got rid of my Supersport and needed another Fiesta," he says. "I was down at Ford Fair and managed a 13.6-second 0-60 in XT\N (Richard's SS). Then Dave did a 9.3 in his XR and I couldn't have that. Later in the day Richard came up to me and told me he used to own the Supersport, and wanted to buy it. I couldn't turn the money down."

This was the XR that replaced it, a bit tatty when it left its Somerset owner, but still all original. "It had a wee hole in the passenger side sill and of course it had to be stripped down and repainted, but after that, only the suspension and brakes were rejigged," says Brian. Tar-Ox discs, Greenstuff pads and braided lines were in order, along with Monroe gas suspension and Jamex springs.

The 1600 motor breaths easier with a Piper-X filter, oil breather and Janspeed four-branch and Piper stainless exit. But after a set of Gaz coil-overs, Brian's plans are all about noise. "There's a full boot-build to be done with a sub in the tray by the spare wheel. I've built a base-box with my neighbour and I'll be doing some custom footwell builds too."

Oh, and on a different note, five minutes before Richard bought the Supersport off him, Brian had just spent £150 on Carlatrim for it. So if you need some, he's got a load he can't use.
